Rural Tourism and Environmental Education Society Nepal (RTEES Nepal) was established in 2009 in Rasuwa district with the slogan of “Let’s join our hands and heart with locals for sustainable rural development and conservation of natural resources to make prosperous new Nepal.” RTEES Nepal has implemented various projects in the region such as the cultivation of medicinal herbs e.g. satuwa and chiraito as an alternative source of income, volunteering in remote areas schools, promotion and maintenance of new and existing trekking routes, sanitation and waste management awareness program, provision of health facilities for the community and training for the local health workers, capacity building through vocational training for women and local trekking guide, and reforestation to reduce the impact of climate change.

Since 2009 RTEES Nepal has been working in collaboration with The Mountain Institute (TMI), (INGO based in Washington DC) that works throughout the mountain belts in different regions of the world particularly in Nepal to uplift the livelihood of rural mountain communities and to conserve the environment and biodiversity. Currently RTEES Nepal is working with TMI to conserve biodiversity and to uplift the livelihood of the communities in marginalized northern VDCs of Rasuwa district through an innovative agricultural technique "Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (MAPs) " cultivation and conservation project. Beside TMI, Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya (UPC), Kathmandu Environmental Education Project (KEEP), and Institute for Village Studies (IVS) are the important partners that have been supporting RTEES to implement different helpful projects to uplift the life of poor and helpless people.
